Detailed Job Description & Role
As a Backend Developer at BJAK, you will be at the forefront of the company's fintech revolution. You will be responsible for building and maintaining the core systems that power BJAK's AI Neobank app. This is not a role for those who want to work in isolation; you will be building reliable APIs, complex workflows, and robust financial product infrastructure designed to scale seamlessly across multiple markets, financial partners, and millions of active users. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, frontend developers, mobile engineers, and AI specialists, to launch features quickly and safely while maintaining the highest standards of system integrity.
Key Responsibilities (What You'll Own)
- Build Core Services: Design and develop robust backend services and APIs for onboarding, accounts, payments, cards, transfers, rewards, travel, FX, KYC, and risk flows.
- System Reliability: Design highly reliable systems capable of supporting real-time customer transactions, operational workflows, and future financial products.
- Integrations: Integrate backend systems with internal services, external financial partners, payment providers, AI services, and third-party platforms.
- Quality & Security: Own backend quality across reliability, security, latency, observability, data integrity, and incident handling.
- Collaboration: Work closely with product, frontend, mobile, and AI teams to launch features quickly and safely.
- Continuous Improvement: Constantly optimize existing systems by simplifying flows, removing manual work, and automating repeatable processes.
Required Skills & Preferred Qualifications
- Backend Engineering: Strong backend engineering experience in production environments, with a proven track record of shipping clean, maintainable code.
- API & Database Design: Deep understanding of RESTful/GraphQL APIs, relational and non-relational databases, authentication, authorization, queues, background jobs, and event-driven architectures.
- Scale & Performance: Experience building and maintaining services used by real customers or internal operations at a meaningful scale.
- Mindset: A strong debugging, reliability, security, and data quality mindset. Ability to make practical trade-offs between speed, correctness, scalability, and maintainability.
- Fintech Experience (Plus): Prior experience in fintech, payments, banking, digital wallets, KYC, fraud detection, or risk management is a strong plus, though not strictly required if your engineering fundamentals are exceptionally strong.
- Communication: Excellent English communication skills are mandatory, as English is the primary working language across BJAK's global teams.
