Detailed Job Description & Responsibilities

As a Systems Engineer Intern, you will play a crucial role in the product development lifecycle. Systems engineering bridges the gap between hardware, software, and testing, ensuring that all components of a complex system work seamlessly together. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • System Integration & Testing: Assist in integrating software modules with hardware components, conducting system-level testing, and identifying performance bottlenecks.
  • Automation Scripting: Write and maintain Python or Shell scripts to automate repetitive testing tasks, improving overall engineering efficiency.
  • Requirements Analysis: Collaborate with senior systems engineers to analyze customer requirements and translate them into technical specifications and test cases.
  • Debugging & Troubleshooting: Use debugging tools, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers to diagnose hardware-software interface issues and document bugs systematically.
  • Documentation: Create detailed technical documentation, including system architecture diagrams, test plans, test reports, and user manuals.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Systems Engineer Intern position, candidates must meet the following academic and professional criteria:

  • Education: Currently pursuing or recently completed a B.E. / B.Tech / M.E. / M.Tech degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Computer Science Engineering (CSE), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Information Technology (IT), or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Batch Eligibility: Open primarily to students graduating in the 2025 or 2026 batches who are available for a full-time internship.
  • Academic Performance: A strong academic record (typically 70% or 7.0 CGPA and above) with no active backlogs.
  • Availability: Must be able to join the Bangalore office for the duration of the internship program (typically 3 to 6 months).

Required Skills & Preferred Qualifications

HARMAN looks for candidates who possess a strong theoretical foundation combined with a practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving. The key skills required for this role include:

  • Programming Languages: Strong proficiency in C or C++ is highly desirable, as much of HARMAN's core systems work involves embedded systems.
  • Scripting Skills: Good knowledge of Python, Bash, or Perl scripting for automation and data analysis.
  • Operating Systems: Solid understanding of Linux operating system concepts, kernel basics, and command-line utilities. Knowledge of Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) is a major plus.
  • Core Engineering Concepts: Strong grasp of computer networks, microprocessors, microcontrollers, and basic electronics.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, a strong willingness to learn, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.

Selection Process

The recruitment process at HARMAN is designed to evaluate both your technical capabilities and your cultural fit. It typically consists of the following stages:

  1. Resume Screening: Shortlisting based on academic performance, projects, and relevant skills listed in your resume.
  2. Online Technical Assessment: A test covering coding challenges (C/C++ or Python), multiple-choice questions on Operating Systems, Computer Networks, and basic electronics.
  3. Technical Interview(s): One or two rounds of technical discussions focusing on your academic projects, core engineering concepts, coding skills, and problem-solving abilities.
  4. HR Interview: A final round to assess your communication skills, career aspirations, and cultural alignment with HARMAN's values.
